Project: First Video Production Adventure…. Ever.
Role: Inquisitor
OMG! The walls have come down! In 2000, the ability for the man-on-the-street to produce a movie was finally a reality. No longer does capturing and communicating a visual story require huge amounts of capitol. A digital camcorder and Apple’s Final Cut Pro had leveled the playing field. Let the revolution begin!
During a ‘99 User Experience conference in New York that I attended with a group of Razorfish colleagues, I fell in love. I had finally gotten my hands on Final Cut Pro and was smitten. I’m not sure what the conference promoted, but I used the conference environment and the rich material of Manhattan to create my first video. I recall not even going out for two evenings, but sequestering myself to the hotel room and working till the early hours of the morning. It was inspired, feverish, and manic work. The video was produced in two days and could stand to have been re-edited, but I’ve let the first blush experience remain. This project post is meant for my own memory, rather than as a demonstration of my abilities. It represents a very distinct time when the excitement and possibility of broadband and motion-based screen experiences consumed my curiosity.
