Disney Travel Company

Project: Disney Travel Company

Role: Creative Director, Information Architecture

Disneyland Resort- Anaheim evolved from a single destination to become the network nexus for destinations that encompass the California region. The primary network is located in Southern California and includes Anaheim, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

This realization fundamentally altered the way Disney Travel needed to market itself. It asked the Designory to re-interpret its offering, create a campaign to articulate its larger network using brochures, print advertising and an interactive CD-R.

We created a campaign to effectively articulate vacation packages that extended beyond a single destination.

Using information graphics, we demonstrated how the Disney network of destinations could be better visually comprehended by their clientele.

I approached the project through the lens of an information designer, which was a role the Designory had never utilized in their print work. This allowed me to capture a large amount of data, distill and express to focus Disney executives on their marketing message.

The CD-R would accompany the higher end brochures as a sales tool for travel agents. The agents used the CD to determine what information best suited their clients and then generate the necessary documents for travel planning and reservations.

Conclusion: Information design and architecture plays an important role in both on and off-line projects. The user experience for a linear, print environment must be carefully considered even though the complexity is substantially lower than an online, screen-based experience.
